Micro links: How they work and how to book!

Micro links also referred to as microbeads or micro rings, are silicone beads that are used to

attach extensions to natural hair in lieu of glues, tapes, and thread. Micro links are the braid-less weft method, which is basically like installing a traditional weave, but instead of sewing the tracks of hair into cornrows, you secure them onto your hair (near the scalp) using microbeads—more on each method below.

Micro links are meant to be a more natural-looking alternative to sew-ins and crochet extensions and they can last slightly longer than tape-ins with the proper maintenance. Essentially, they're small silicone or metal beads that are used to attach tiny, individual hair extensions to small sections of your natural hair.

During the installation process which can take anywhere from four to six hours, you can expect your hair to be parted into small sections by your hairstylist, who will then apply the beads at the root of each section. The actual extensions feature multiple individual strands that are bonded together at the tip.

The key difference between micro links and other styles like sew-ins and crochet extensions

is that they don't require the hair to be braided down in cornrows first, meaning that they put less tension on the scalp.

How to book an appointment:

This is the easy part! You will need to schedule a consultation before jumping into a hair appointment. the stylist will need to see your hair to see if you are a candidate to receive this type of installation. Once a stylist has seen your hair and is able to get micro links you will be able to book an appointment based on her recommendations!

I would also suggest scheduling maintenance appointments with the stylist who installed the micro links, Beyond that, the possibilities are endless — that’s the great thing about micro links. Scratch your head without fear, pull it all up in a sleek ponytail with no bumps or visible tracks, or go for an entirely different length or color. The minimal damage means the only limit is your imagination — or your hair technician's ever-crowded calendar!
